Pentti Tienari

Dr Pentti Tienari is a professor in neuroimmunology at the University of Helsinki and chief neurologist at the Helsinki University Hospital. He obtained his MD and PhD in University of Helsinki and did his postdoctoral studies in 1993-96 in University of Heidelberg, Germany. He has research background in epidemiology, molecular genetics, cell biology and immunology of multiple sclerosis and neurodegenerative diseases such as motor neuron disease ALS. His research group is currently turning attention to viruses by studying the role of EBV in MS as well as the role of common viruses in neurodegenerative diseases.
