About the program

The ECF Nurse Training Program has been developed to offer talented nurses the opportunity to be trained for a short period at a Multiple Sclerosis Center in Europe.

This is a short-term program (3 months) aimed at offering experienced nurses who lack training in specific skills or subspecialty areas in their home country, the opportunity to be trained at a reputed and highly recognized Multiple Sclerosis Center in Europe.

The program welcomes applicants from all countries.

To apply for the Nurse Training Program, applicants should complete and submit the Candidate Application Form.

The exact duration of the Training Program will be decided on a case-by-case basis, according to the candidate’s training needs and availability, the host Multiple Sclerosis Center and the ECF Nurse Training Program Committee’s evaluation.

ECF Nurse Training Program Selection Committee

The ECF Nurse Training Program Selection Committee is a subcommittee of the ECF Scientific Committee, appointed by the Scientific Committee.

The ECF Nurse Training Program Selection Committee is responsible for selecting the successful candidates from among the applicants, as well as for determining the length of the fellowship, approving the appropriate host center and liaising with candidates and the host Multiple Sclerosis Center during and immediately after the program.

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants for the Nurse Training Program must have qualifications as a fully trained nurse. All applicants should have the intention of pursuing a career as a nurse. They should present a project and letter stating their reasons fro applying for the intended ECF Nurse Training Program, clearly detailing their aims and expectations, as fully described on the Candidate Application Form.

Applicants must be supported by a reference or letter of recommendation from their current Head of the Department. Applicants should also be supported by a reference or letter of recommendation from the potential host MS Center.

The Home Center will then support the applicant with a commitment to take up a position as a nurse following the successful completion of the Training Program.

Host Centers should be located in Europe and must be selected by the applicant. Applicants should be able both to understand the local/national language of the selected Host Centre, as well as speak it fluently.

Application deadlines and guidelines

Applications will be accepted from 1 September 2016 and will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis.

All application documents should be sent by e-mail to charcot@seauton-international.com in either .pdf or .doc format. All files must be named appropriately.

Photographs should be sent as separate files in .jpg format. If not included in the main files, the final page of both forms, including the signature, should be sent separately.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to complete and submit the Candidate Application Form. All sections of the Candidate Application Form must be completed. Inadequately completed applications will be rejected.

A CV (in English) must be provided with the Candidate Application Form.

A pre-discussed preparation of the Training Program and an acceptance/support letter from a potential Host Center are essential.

The applicant should mention very clearly how the ECF Nurse Training Program Selection Committee will be able to measure the aim and the success of the applicant’s training program.

The total budget for the training program includes an allowance for the nurse and coverage of reasonable expenses incurred during the training period. The living cost of family members is not included.

The ECF Selection Committee requires a (short) written report to be provided by the applicant no later than 3 months after completing the Nurse Training Program. This report should focus on the benefits (and any problems) of the Nurse Training Program, both for the applicant and for the host institution.

The following documents must be submitted by e-mail:

1. Candidate Application Form, fully completed and signed

2. a recent photograph

3. a recent CV

4. a scan of a certificate confirming the completion of your nurse training

5. a scan of your passport

6. an acceptance/support letter, signed by the host center

Financial support for the training program

The expected duration of the training program abroad is 3 months.

The ECF will pay a training program grant of € 4,000.00 to the nurse. The nurse is expected to use this grant in a responsible manner. The grant may be used for any costs related to the training program (accommodation, travel, etc.), up to the maximum of € 4,000.00.

The nurse is not required to report details of how the allowance is used. Trust is the key word. 

However, the nurse must report clearly on how the goals, as defined prior to the start of the training program, have been achieved.

The costs of attending important meetings (travel and registration fee) during the training program period may be covered by the grant, provided the maximum amount of the grant is not exceeded.

The grant cannot be used to cover expenses for family members or for permanent acquisitions, such as clothes or computers, etc. or any research materials.

Travel and accommodation are to be arranged by the nurse.

Educational Grant

The ECF Nurse Training Program is made possible by an educational grant from Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.

Merck is not involved in the screening of the applicants nor the selection of the candidates.

A Merck representative is allowed to attend only the part of the meeting during which general topics or feedback on previous training program experiences are discussed.  The representative will play no part in the final decision of the ECF Nurse Training Program Selection Committee regarding individual candidates. Voting is restricted to ECF Nurse Training Program Selection Committee members only.
